New York State Navigation law requires boats to travel at 5 MPH or less within 200 feet of moored boats, floats, dock ends or undeveloped shoreline.

contact committeePursuant to the KLA bylaws the Navigation & Recreation Committee 'shall promote safety and recreation related programs on Keuka Lake; act as liaison with law enforcement and conservation officials; and educate and inform the membership on safety and recreation related matters regarding Keuka Lake'.
The Committee's work includes the following:
- Increase awareness of NYS boating and fishing laws including speedlimits and PDF requirements;
- Work with the Yates and Steuben County Sheriff'sMarine Patrol with enforcement of NYS navigation laws, and assist with equipmentpurchases.
- Work with the DEC Environmental ConservationOfficers with communication of fishing and wildlife regulations.
- Distribute summaries of navigation and fishing laws to the KLAnewsletter & web site, social media sites, local vacation guides, rental agencies, localnewspapers, marinas.
- Distribute dock plates and other methods of siteidentification.
- Highlight swimming and other water recreation safety matters.
- Publicize recreational opportunities on Keuka Lake.
- Track and stay current with NYS Navigation Laws- existingand proposed.
- Identify, research, coordinate, publicize, and help resolve member concerns on issues of navigation, recreation, fishing and safety.
